• Work together with Parks Canada staff in maintenance and restoration
projects onboard and serve as docents, helping visitors with questions,
explanations and stories and generally helping to bring the ship to life.
• Run educational outreach programmes, including school visits,
and seek to encourage the interest of all Canadians, especially youth and
cadet groups, in the ship and to make their visits meaningful.
• Strive promote the use of the ship as a Naval Memorial by our
participation in the annual ATHABASKAN Memorial service and other events
throughout the year and
• Work to preserve naval traditions and to build links between the
current Canadian Navy and its past through ship visits and outreach to
the fleet.
Our members and donors, some of them Naval veterans, some with no naval experience at all, share a common belief that it is important to all Canadians, young and old, to not only preserve Canadian history and heritage but to ensure that Canadians know about it. Your generous donations make our work possible!”
THE WAY IT WORKS:
Click on the CanadaHelps.org icon. It's that simple.
French is available on the web site itself.
We will receive the information about your donation and you will receive an e-tax receipt for your donation. Credit card donations will be processed quickly and efficiently.
How secure is your credit card and personal information?
Canada Helps web servers use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), an advanced encryption technology. This technology safeguards your personal information and guarantees privacy. It encrypts all of your personal information, including credit card number, name, and address, so that it cannot be read as the information travels over the Internet.
Does Friends of HAIDA get 100% of my donation? How are donations transferred to Friends of HAIDA?
Your full donation is transferred to Friends of HAIDA. Canada Helps provides electronic fund transfer (EFT) services to charities, allowing them to transfer funds on a weekly basis. Friends of HAIDA will receive monthly reports detailing the donations. As a service fee, we will pay an amount equal to 8% of donations transferred to us. This fee covers the credit card transaction fees that the banks charge, as well as the administrative costs of running their website.
How do I get a donation receipt so I can claim my tax credit?
Canada Helps produces e-tax receipts for all donations made through
the website. This e-tax receipt is fully approved by the Canada Customs
and Revenue Agency. You can receive your e-tax receipt as soon as your
transaction is processed (generally within 2 business days) or choose to
have it sent to you at the end of the year. They will send you an image
file as an attachment to an email. You can open and print the receipt using
Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you don't have a printer, you can save your e-tax
receipt to disk and take it to a copy shop to have it printed out. Canada
Helps will send us your donation information so that we can keep track
of you and ensure you still receive all the benefits of membership.
